Cutting A Cigar

The only rule: create a sufficient opening for smoke to pass through without damaging the cigar.

Guillotine, pierce, scissor, and V cutters all work well – biting is not acceptable.

Lighting A Cigar

Cigars taste best when the smoke is cool.

So when lighting your cigar keep the foot close to and above the flame but not in it – putting the foot directly in a flame makes it too hot. Rotate the cigar as you roast it so that the entire foot is equally toasted. Once the foot is glowing, lift the cigar to your lips and take several quick puffs followed by a deep, languid sip and savor the moment.
